It has a salty smell, but a comforting and familiar one. It’s where I usually go to clear my head and sort my feelings. It’s where I go because it never fails to quiet my mind when I need it most. I needed it yesterday because it was one of those days where I had all the happy and positive energy drained out of me. I felt disappointed, hurt, even angry. But with my feet submerged in sand and the sound of the ocean waves crashing onto shore, I started to feel okay again. Even with the salty smell tickling my nose.

I took these photos yesterday in Huntington Beach, unprepared without a tripod. And I admit they’re not exceptionally great photos. But they’re good enough for me, to remind me that with open eyes and an open heart, life has a way of surprising us in our dark moments. I instantly felt better after soaking in the spectacular display of nature’s colors. Even as I’m typing this now at 4:53 pm, I can see through the window that there’s another beautiful sunset outside. Hopefully, it’ll make someone else feel better like it did for me.
