New York City — A Season of Lights

On my tippy toes, I reached for it. Stacked on the top shelf in my cluttered garage, I slowly brought it down, balancing with my two steady hands. With one abrupt move, I ran the risk of waking them up with a loud sneeze. I was careful not to disturb the little particles of dust…

New York City — A Walk in Central Park

I was there to soak in nature. I was there to enjoy the scenery. I was there to people watch. I was there in the company of good friends. I was there for a walk in the park. A walk in the park was exactly the first thing I did when I visited New York…

Last time iI was there I went on a jog with a friend who lived on 61st and Prrk Ave. We jogged through the park and around Jackie Onassis Lake. The scenery was fantastic and I loved reconnecting with my old friend. Now I see places in the park every time a watch a movie or TV show centered in NYC.

New York City Winter Street Fashion

When you have to jump up and down to fit into your skinny jeans, there’s a problem. And it’s an even worse problem when you rip off the belt straps because you looped your fingers around them to help pull up the jeans (while you’re jumping up and down). Any woman, or man, who owns…

I truly enjoy traveling and snooping (hehe) through your lens! New York does not disappoint in its appeal, people, and culture… and as usual, you capture it to perfection! Cool read, too.

hey michelle.
NY is definitely cool. First of all, 30-something is a great weather day in the winter. hehe. I’m quite serious too. We were in the low teens and with wind chills is probably in the negative # just last week and it’s only december. :( on the other hand, as usual, love your photos and commentary.

Thanks guys!

May — That’s why I’m not visiting you this winter. I’ll wait until the spring or early fall. :)

Incredible photos! All of them! How do you approach strangers to ask them to take their picture? What do you usually say? I went to Indonesia last year and it was actually easier to do this in a foreign language than it is for me in English. I’m always concerned that people will be suspicious or guarded if I ask for permission to take their portrait.

Thank you, Rebekah. As you can see, some I take stealthily from the hip. :) Others, I just ask. Surprisingly, I only had one person say no to me. I’ve had quite a few people ask me about this, so I may do a blog post about it in the future. Keep a look out for it. Thanks for your comment.

hi, i’d just like to say that these photos are stunning. the colour, compositioning and choice of subject is amazing.

i’d just like to ask, what camera and lens you took the majority of the images on.. i’m trying to capture that same shallow depth of focus you have in these images.

thank you, sophie x

Hi, Sophie! Thanks for your comment. With the exception of the last two photos, these were all taken with my Canon 5DMKII camera and a 50mm 1.2 lens. Unless you plan to use the 50mm 1.2 a lot, it may not be a good investment since it’s pretty pricey. A good alternative is the 50mm 1.4 lens. Hope this helps.
